Everyone wants to improvise and play mind blowing bebop at lightning speed. And they’re all looking for that magic bullet lesson video on Youtube, or blog post that’s going to reveal the secret “they don’t want you to know.” The truth is that without technique, you will not become the player you desire to be.
Internet marketing hype and click bait ads promise x days to better jazz guitar, or learn from a real teacher. Our question is where is the real playing?
Ask about 95% of the self proclaimed jazz guitarist-educators online today to throw down with a burning rhythm section to display their playing skill. More often than not, you’ll get blabbered at for an hour, and you’ll end up moving on to the next internet marketer - OR you can start focusing on your technique.
Lines and licks are useless if you lack the ability to physically execute them on your guitar.
Your jazz guitar learning journey absolutely must start with technique; a truth that is carved in stone.
You watch a player take a solo. He plays some line in one position, then stops, moves to another position, then plays another line.
Such poor technique leads to boring, choppy sounding solos that lack fluidity.
Trust us, you won't be wowing any crowds with that type of playing. There's a million guys out there playing in that manner; don't be one of them if you want to be memorable for your audience.
After attending a performance in Los Angeles, California, Zan Stewart, the highly respected LA Times newspaper jazz critic, commented on Robert Conti’s technique:
As seen in numerous videos from the 1960s through present day, Robert Conti flawlessly executes complex lines at upper level tempos with precision and ease. It’s a learned skill that cannot be developed from reading a book or watching a video. Every pro player practices some form of technique, whether they can articulate it to you, or not.
Don't make the mistake of wasting time in guitar forums engaging an army of phonies, posers and fakes - all eager to fill their egos by dispensing useless advice. In line with the mantra of all Conti learning resources, The Precision Technique gets you playing from day 1.
Develop your right and left hand technique by following the same blueprint as Robert Conti for unrivaled ability and skill to execute lines with ease at any tempo. The melodic exercises are designed to quickly increase your overall dexterity to achieve your precision technique.
"A month with this material has done more for my technique than the countless hours spent with the cardboard box full of technique books now exiled to my closet. While each exercise might have a particular focus (shifting positions with the first finger, or crossing several strings, giving the pinky a real workout) they all involve the integration of several aspects of technique. Conti adds six of his own that focus on moving up and down the neck, double stops, and a few other goodies. Make no mistake, work is required. But unlike other material on technique I have tried (and tried), this material rewards work with real results because the material delivers the goods: vastly improved technique! Thank you, Robert Conti!"

"I must tell you that my picking technique has improved more in the last week than it had in the last few years put together! I stopped moving my wrist so much and abandoned my thick picks for the lighter gauge type. As a result, my new minimal pick stroke (and the resulting increase in speed) is somewhat short of amazing to me. Thanks again for your help and send on my thanks to Mr. Conti"

"My speed has dramatically increased in 6 months! My picking technique has also improved to the extent that I am now able to play what I previously considered to be very difficult passages. I also learned three other important lessons from the eight studies: I unexpectedly gained a vastly improved knowledge of the fingerboard enabling me to quickly transpose melodies from one key to another, secondly, I can play melodies easily in different positions, and thirdly I no longer need a capo."

"Being a stroke survivor struggling with residual paralysis in my right hand, the exercises are just what the Dr. ordered. After only four months of study I am amazed at the progress I have made with the strength and coordination in my right hand as well as my sense of timing. I anticipate within a year I will completely regain my lost ability thanks to these exercises. No matter what level of skill and ability you currently command you will greatly benefit from this. Conti talks at great length about the benefits of using the thin pick. I can certainly attest to the fact that it is a difficult transition. However if you are willing to spend the 10 to 20 days to make the adjustment, you will be glad you did and you will never look back, trust me. I hope my comments will benefit others having problems in this critical area. Thanks again Bob, you are The Socrates of Swing!!!"

"This book speed up my picking, it feels like I can play twice as fast as I could before, what also has to do with this thin pick. I experiment with different picks before, but never used such a thin one, because when I tried thin picks they deformed and were looking pretty soon like a boomerang not usable. I’m playing Guitar since 44 years and I’m interested in playing jazz since 10 years, I never made that big progress in such a small period (2 month). Thank you for all these books Mr. Conti."
